Tokyo - Prime Minister Hun Manet of the Kingdom of Cambodia encouraged representatives of the Kansai Regional Economic Federation to showcase Cambodia's potential to Japanese investors, aiming to spark interest and opportunities for expanding investments in Cambodia. The Prime Minister made this statement during a courtesy call on Mr. Obayashi Takeo, Head of International Relations and Representative of the Kansai Economic Federation, as well as Chairman of Obayashi Corporation. This meeting occurred during his attendance at the 50th ASEAN-Japan Anniversary Summit held from December 15 to 19, 2023, in Tokyo, Japan.
Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his gratitude to the Kansai Economic Federation, which comprises numerous companies and enterprises from the Kansai region with an interest in investing in Cambodia. He encouraged continued efforts to promote Cambodia's potential to Japanese investors, generating interest and opportunities for further investment in the country.
He also announced that the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia would participate in the upcoming Global Expo hosted by the Kansai Regional Economic Federation. The Prime Minister emphasized that the Royal Government of Cambodia has been actively working to ensure the sustainability of a favorable business and investment environment. This includes the introduction of new policies, implementation mechanisms, legal frameworks, and the development of key connectivity and logistics infrastructure, such as highways, railways, and ports.
Simultaneously, the Royal Government is exploring the possibility of establishing a Cambodia-Japan Industrial Park and creating a logistics master plan to transform the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port into a major regional port. These initiatives aim to provide attractive incentives for investors considering Cambodia as their investment destination.
Mr. Obayasita Takeo, in response, expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for the opportunity to discuss and informed him about the business activities of the Kansai Economic Federation, including projects undertaken in Cambodia, such as the repair of the Cambodia-Japan Friendship Bridge in Chroy Changva. He also expressed his intention to expand investments and encourage other Japanese companies to invest in Cambodia, including the Global Expo project in the Kansai Economic Federation scheduled for 2024, with hopes for Cambodia's participation in this significant event.
The Kansai Regional Economic Federation comprises prominent companies and enterprises located in the Kansai prefecture in western Japan. This includes seven prefectures: Osaka, Kyoto, Hyogo, Nara, Shiga, Miyagi, and Wakayama, all of which have significantly influenced Japan's economic development.
